Asia AMCA's 7th Annual Regional Meeting was held in Malaysia, Johor at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel on October 11th, 2017. We were very honored to have 8 of our AMCA International Board joining us at our Annual Regional Meeting. The year 2017 marks the 100th year anniversary of AMCA International, and we were glad that most attendees wore the AMCA 100th Year Anniversary T-Shirts to the meeting.
Mr Doug Yamashita, President of the AMCA International Board, started the meeting by introducing the AMCA International Board and AMCA Members who were attending the meeting for the first time. Mr Yamashita touched on AMCA's international priority and the objectives of AMCA, which is both members focused, and members driven. He shared and invited AMCA Members to attend the AMCA Annual Meeting 2018, which will be held in San Francisco from 16th to 21st October 2018.
With any association, the support of its members is crucial. During AMCA's initial years in the Asia region, Mr CF Yang from Kruger Ventilation Industries made extensive efforts to promote AMCA and its Certified Ratings Program. This resulted in the widespread of projects specifying for AMCA certified products. To show AMCA’s appreciation for Mr Yang’s great contribution to AMCA, Mr Tim O'Hare, Chairman of the AMCA International Board, presented the AMCA International Distinguish Service Award to Mr Yang.
Mdm Goh, Executive Director of Asia AMCA, updated that AMCA will launch a new CRP program in Year 2018 on Tunnel Fan Thrust force certification per AMCA 250 standard. Special thanks is given to Kruger for sponsoring 2 sets of the Thrust Force stand to both Asia AMCA and AMCA International. Due to the space constraint in both Laboratories, the design of the test facilities will only be up to 1,250mm diameter of the Axial Fan.
Mr CK So, Chairman of the Steering Committee, gave an overview of the newly setup Committee. It currently comprised of 5 AMCA Members and is responsible for developing the strategic plan for the Asia Region. The Steering Committee will meet at least twice a year, once during the Asia Annual Regional Meeting, and the other, during one of the Trade Shows.
Mr Mark Stevens, Executive Director of AMCA International, provided an Executive Directors updates on AMCA International. He highlighted
- Updates on US Fan Regulation;
- Team Changes in AMCA International;
- Various Projects that AMCA International has undertaken;
- Setting up of the Steering Committees in the Europe and Middle East Region;
- Moving on, Mr Mark Stevens gave a presentation on Fan Efficiency Index (FEI).
Mr Rozano Yahaya, Director of MIDA (Malaysia, Johor), shared on the economy and investment opportunities in Malaysia, Johor.
Mr Asokdas, Chair of Marketing Committee, provided updates on Marketing and Engineering activities. He updated the various exhibitions that Asia AMCA has participated in 2016/17, for example, ACREX 2017, HVACR Vietnam 2017, China Refrigeration Show 2017. Asia AMCA also hosted a dinner in Shanghai to celebrate AMCA's 100th Year Anniversary. To further create public awareness on AMCA, Mdm Goh, Executive Director of Asia AMCA, presented the topic on 'Fan Design & Selection to Achieve Optimal Performance on Air Handling Systems' at the NEA, 'Obtaining Real Energy Savings' seminar in Singapore. Mr Asokdas further updated on the CRP status in the Asia Region.
Mr Nick Kang, Managing Director of Vibro Technologies and Engineering, gave a presentation on Vibration Analysis. In his presentation, he also used 3 case studies to further strengthened the points he would like to put across to the audience. His presentation was well-received.
After lunch, the attendees proceeded to Asia AMCA's laboratory for a tour. In addition, Mr Nick Kang and his team had also set up demonstration kits on Vibration Analysis to let the attendees have a closer look, following his presentation in the morning.
This Asia Annual Regional Meeting was fruitful as the attendees could interact and network with the AMCA International Board, the Asia Steering Committee as well as among members. They also understood how their Fans and Dampers were being tested after a tour at Asia AMCA's laboratory.
